Questions and answers about cannabis treatment

Yes. Since August 2022, doctors are permitted to prescribe medical cannabis without requiring a special exemption.

The active substances THC and CBD interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system, which plays a role in regulating pain perception, sleep and mood.

As with any medication, side effects may occur. These may include tiredness, dizziness or a dry mouth. Our doctors will inform you individually and provide guidance.

Selection is based on your diagnosis, medical history and individual response to cannabinoids. We will support and monitor you throughout dose adjustment.

  • Cannabis flowers – often inhaled using a vaporiser; rapid effect and flexible dosing

  • Tinctures – liquid extracts taken under the tongue; precise dosing

  • Extracts / oil capsules – concentrated forms with longer-lasting effects

  • Topical products – such as creams or ointments for localised symptoms, non-psychoactive

Qualified and authorised doctors in Switzerland may prescribe medical cannabis, including so-called magistral preparations, which are individually produced by pharmacies.

  • For severe or chronic illnesses (e.g., chronic pain, multiple sclerosis, chemotherapy-related nausea)

  • When standard treatments are ineffective or cause significant side effects

  • When there is a medically justified likelihood that cannabis will provide relief

  • Registration including a structured health history questionnaire

  • Submission of medical documents (diagnoses, reports, medication history)

  • Initial video consultation (approx. 20 minutes) – follow-up appointments available digitally

  • If medically appropriate: prescription sent to a pharmacy of your choice or delivered to your home

  • Use of the platform is free

  • The only cost is for the medical consultation, including prescription issuance

  • Fees are calculated individually according to the TARMED tariff

  • Health insurance reimbursement is possible only in exceptional cases, as scientific evidence is still limited
